My Year in Small Drawings: Notice, Draw, Appreciate is an originally illustrated book-cum-dairy that helps you to make and collect details all around you each and every day.
The journal helps one to pay close attention to their surroundings and record moments, scenes and objects than one want to look back as a fond memory.
The dairy has 240 pages and is divided into 52 themes, of which some are seasonal, and others are not.
The goal of the book is to encourage us to create lots of sketches within it round the year.
The ranges of themes are sunsets, street corners, bicycles, rooftops, seeds, telephone poles, leafy trees, buds, and construction sites.
On each theme, there are three pages of grids in which readers can include their own sketches in a space of 4 cm x 4 cm.
Along with encouraging to create small sketches on small things, the book also gives inspiring messages on the purpose of drawing, how to start, how not to look for perfection always, and the various mediums.
The book is written by Matilda Tristram, an award-winning writer, illustrator, animator, and lecturer.
The book will also inspire you to go slow, pause and look around your surroundings, notice the things that have been so effortlessly overlooked, and observe more, sketch more, and appreciate the simple things around you. You never know, when you open the book after all the drawings over the years, you will relive the fond memories and may be pleasantly surprised.
