Grand Ferdinand Vienna

Grand Ferdinand Hotel, Vienna

New York Times review:

“Grand Ferdinand, abundant in burgundy leather, parquet flooring and offbeat details like a taxidermy horse, offers gorgeous rooftop vistas. Its 188 rooms range between a grand suite of rich tapestries and a Lobmeyr chandelier to what might be the city’s — if not Europe’s — swankiest dorm rooms with mahogany bunk beds and housekeeping services.”

Featured in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Vienna, Austria.

Lonely Planet review:

“An enormous taxidermied horse stands in the reception area of this ultrahip newcomer, which is shaking up Vienna’s accommodation scene by offering parquet-floored dorms with mahogany bunks alongside richly coloured designer rooms with chaises longues and chandeliered suites with private champagne bars.”

The walls of the Grand Ferdinand Hotel would have some tasty tea to spill is they could talk. One of Vienna’s newest boutique hotel, it a 19th century palace that was bombed in World War II. The building was then used as an office in the 1950s. Rumor had it though, that is was actually an Austrian Secret Service headquarters. It was then converted into this luxurious hotel. That is quite a rich and interesting history!

The hotel is located along the Ringstrasse in Vienna. This boulevard circles Old Town and is only a few steps away from the rich culture that the museums, coffeehouses and vibrant people have to offer. Johann Strauss memorial and the Vienna State Opera beg for a visit too. Musikverein, Vienna State Opera, Viennese City Park, Karlsplatz and Albertina are also nearby.

The hotel is seven floors tall and is decorate with sophisticated items inspired by the imperial era of Emperor Franz Joseph. Suites on the highest floor have amazing views of the vistas below and even of the giant Ferris wheel. Guests live in style with the plush accommodations. Features include air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a safe, a minibar, wooden floors and premium bedding. The private bathrooms have an open floor plan for an even more spacious feel.
